“…And it feels so right to be here with you! Oooh!” Cheesy, I know, but High School Musical has got this semester summed up perfectly. With each new semester, brings new opportunities, classes, friends etc… and this upcoming semester is absolutely no exception. One of the biggest changes of all is Sorority Recruitment! With Miami University adding a Winter Session (which is a 6-week winter break that is designed for students to have a study abroad experience, or take a class, do a program etc…) Formal Sorority Recr
uitment has undergone several changes.
Instead of potential new members returning the week before the semester starts, it now takes place during the semester. Recruitment is no longer 5 days straight and is now over the course of the first 2 weekends of the spring semester, so girls can have a longer break and have plenty of time to rest and re-energize for the next round of recruitment. And, if they also want to participate in Winter Term, they can still go through recruitment so you get the best of both worlds!
The rounds of recruitment are still the same as before but the timing for each round has changed. The Open House round takes place on the first Friday and Saturday of the spring semester (which is this weekend!! So exciting!) This is the time when the potential new members visit each sorority to get to know a little bit about each chapter. First Round takes place the next day, Sunday, which is when you revisit the chapters you are most interested in.
The following weekend (starting Thursday) recruitment continues with Second Round and Preference Round where you narrow down to your 3 favorite chapters. And before you know it, the second Sunday of the semester is when you get your did to your favorite sorority and you start your Greek life journey! Yes, the process is longer but there is a huge advantage: these girls are going to be your lifelong sisters and this way, you get a better understanding of which sorority is the perfect fit for you! Can’t wait to see all you future Greek girls at recruitment this time next year!
